🏦 Bank Connection
How do I connect my bank account?

Tap the Connect Bank button on the home screen. FlowCheck uses Plaid β€” the same technology used by major fintech apps β€” to securely connect to your bank. You'll see a Plaid-hosted screen where you can search for your bank and log in with your banking credentials.

Your bank username and password never reach FlowCheck's servers. Plaid handles authentication directly and gives us a secure token to read your data.

Which banks are supported?

FlowCheck supports over 12,000 banks and credit unions in the United States via Plaid, including all major institutions like Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, Capital One, Ally, and thousands of regional banks and credit unions.

If you can't find your bank, try searching by the bank's full legal name or the name on your bank's website. Contact us at support@getflowcheck.app if your bank isn't supported.

Can I connect multiple bank accounts?

FlowCheck Free supports 1 bank connection. FlowCheck Pro supports unlimited bank connections.

You can connect checking, savings, credit cards, and investment accounts from different institutions. Each will appear separately in your accounts list and contribute to your net worth calculation.

My bank connection stopped syncing. How do I fix it?

Bank connections can break when you change your banking password or your bank requires re-authentication for security reasons. To fix it:

  • Go to Settings β†’ Bank Accounts
  • Tap Disconnect next to the affected account
  • Reconnect your bank by tapping Connect Bank on the home screen

If the issue persists, try force-closing the app and relaunching. If it still doesn't work, contact us at support@getflowcheck.app.

How do I disconnect my bank account?

Go to Settings β†’ Bank Accounts β†’ Disconnect. This will immediately revoke FlowCheck's access to your bank and delete all synced transaction and account data from our servers. This action cannot be undone β€” you'll need to reconnect if you want to restore access.

How often does FlowCheck sync my transactions?

FlowCheck syncs when you open the app and also runs a background sync periodically. You can also manually trigger a sync by pulling down to refresh on the home screen. Most banks update transactions within 1-3 business days of the purchase date.

πŸ”’ Account & Security
How do I set up Face ID?

FlowCheck automatically locks when you leave the app and uses Face ID or Touch ID to re-authenticate. This is enabled by default on supported devices. Make sure Face ID is set up in your iPhone's Settings β†’ Face ID & Passcode, and that FlowCheck has permission to use Face ID (Settings β†’ FlowCheck β†’ Face ID).

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot Password and enter your email address. We'll send a password reset link. If you signed in with Apple, you manage your credentials through Apple's system β€” FlowCheck does not have access to Apple passwords.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings β†’ Delete Account in the app. This will permanently:

  • Revoke all Plaid bank connections and delete synced financial data
  • Delete all your data from our Firestore database (goals, bills, budgets, etc.)
  • Delete your Firebase Auth account
  • Cancel your Pro subscription (if active)

This action cannot be undone. Data is permanently deleted within 30 days per our Privacy Policy.

Is FlowCheck safe? How is my data protected?

Yes. Security is our top priority:

  • TLS encryption on all data in transit
  • AES-256 encryption on all data at rest (Firebase/Google infrastructure)
  • Your bank credentials never touch our servers β€” handled exclusively by Plaid
  • Firebase Security Rules mean only you can access your own data
  • Face ID / Touch ID protects the app on your device
  • We never sell your data to advertisers or data brokers
πŸ’³ Transactions
Why are some transactions missing?

Most banks have a 1-3 business day delay before transactions appear in Plaid. Pending transactions may also show differently depending on your bank. Try tapping the sync button on the home screen. If transactions are consistently missing, contact your bank or contact us.

Why are transaction categories wrong?

Transaction categories are assigned automatically based on merchant data from Plaid. Occasionally a category may be incorrect. We use this data to build your spending insights and budget tracking, so we aim to keep it as accurate as possible. If you consistently see wrong categories, let us know β€” we're continuously improving our categorization.

How far back does transaction history go?

FlowCheck Free: 90 days of transaction history.

FlowCheck Pro: Full transaction history available through Plaid (typically 12-24 months depending on your bank).

🎯 Budgets & Goals
How do I set up a budget?

Go to the Insights tab and scroll to the Budget section. Tap any category to set a monthly spending limit. FlowCheck will track your spending against each category and alert you when you're approaching your limit (at 80%) or have exceeded it (at 100%).

How do budget alerts work?

When your spending in any category reaches 80% or 100% of your budget, FlowCheck sends you a push notification (if you've enabled notifications). Make sure you've granted FlowCheck notification permission in your iPhone Settings. Alerts are sent once per threshold per month to avoid being spammy.

How do I create a savings goal?

Tap the Goals tab in the app. Tap the + button to create a new goal. Enter a name, target amount, and optional target date. Goals show a visual progress ring that fills as you manually update your progress. Tap any goal to edit or mark a contribution.

⭐ Credit Score
How does the credit score feature work?

FlowCheck retrieves your credit score from Experian via a secure API connection through our backend server. When you tap "Check My Credit Score," we make a soft inquiry to Experian's credit bureau and display your score, risk classification, and the factors affecting it.

Important: This is a soft pull β€” it does not affect your credit score in any way.

Does checking my score in FlowCheck hurt my credit?

No. FlowCheck performs a soft inquiry only. Soft inquiries are invisible to lenders and have zero impact on your credit score. Only hard inquiries (like applying for a loan or credit card) affect your score.

Why is my score different from what my bank shows?

Different sources use different credit scoring models and different credit bureaus. FlowCheck uses Experian data with the VantageScore or FICO model. Your bank might use TransUnion or Equifax with a different model version. Small differences are normal. The important thing to watch is the trend over time, not the exact number.

How often can I refresh my credit score?

Your score is cached for 24 hours to protect your credit profile and manage API costs. You can refresh it once every 24 hours. FlowCheck Pro may offer more frequent updates in future releases.

I'm getting an error when checking my credit score. What should I do?

Credit score retrieval can occasionally fail due to temporary Experian service issues or connectivity problems. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists for more than 24 hours, contact us at support@getflowcheck.app.

You can also manually enter your known credit score as a fallback β€” go to the Credit tab and look for the manual entry option.

Tap Start Free Trial β€” your Apple ID will be used for payment but you won't be charged until the trial ends. I was charged but the app still shows as free. What happened?

  • Pull down to refresh on the home screen
  • Go to Settings β†’ tap your name β†’ tap Restore Purchases
  • Force close and reopen the app

If the issue persists after 24 hours, contact us at support@getflowcheck.app with your Apple ID (not your password) and approximate purchase date.

βš™οΈ Technical Issues
The app is loading slowly or freezing. How do I fix it?

Try these steps in order:

  • Force close the app (swipe up from home screen on iPhone) and reopen it
  • Check your internet connection β€” FlowCheck requires a network connection to sync
  • Restart your iPhone
  • Check if there's an app update available in the App Store
  • If none of these help, delete and reinstall the app (your data is stored in the cloud and will be restored when you sign back in)
I'm not receiving push notifications.

Make sure FlowCheck has notification permission:

  • Go to iPhone Settings β†’ FlowCheck β†’ Notifications
  • Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on
  • Enable Alerts, Badges, and Sounds as desired

Also check that your iPhone is not in Focus mode or Do Not Disturb, which can block notifications from some apps.

How do I update FlowCheck?

Open the App Store, tap your profile icon in the top right, scroll down to find FlowCheck, and tap Update. Alternatively, enable automatic updates in Settings β†’ App Store β†’ App Updates.
